The primary star car of the movie is a 1977 Trans Am driven mostly by Bandit. This particular Trans Am is equipped with the Special Edition package - RPO code Y82. This appearance package includes the Hurst Hatch T-Roof and lots of gold accent trim on Starlight Black paint.

There is a bit of controversy about exactly how many Trans Ams were used in the filing of the movie. The official response from people directly involved with the movie range from 2-4 Trans Ams. Unofficial sources which include people who were in Georgia during filming claim they saw 6-8 Trans Ams during filming.
